Super Quick Holiday Check In

Episode 50: I took notes so you didn’t have to….today we are talking about how we are all surviving the holidays this season and just a nice check in with you, me and the rest of the podcast world!

Oh the holidays. A time that is filled with a lot of “should’ve’s” “need to do’s” “have to do’s” and the ultimate feeling of “did I forget to do something?” Honestly as much as I enjoy the holidays the older I get the harder they actually are. I love having a lot of places to go, people to see and things to do. Honestly I truly do and I know there are lot of people out there who have the total opposite and my heart truly goes out to them if they are not in that situation by choice. Truly. But what I am realizing is that there is actually a lot of sadness and nostalgia around the holidays. They can remind us of days and people gone by, times we wish we could relive and memories we are trying to hold on. I am actually not one to hold on to many traditions for that reason. A lot of my favorite memories are tied to food which is why I am always trying new recipes during the holiday season so I can stay more in the present moment verse looking backwards.

If you are struggling during the holiday season and need someone to chat with, I am here for you, letsgoonafoodadventure@gmail.com. Try to remember it’s only a day and I can promise you that you will get through it and tomorrow, once the holiday is over, you WILL feel better. I promise you!

If you are looking for a little holiday cooking inspiration these are a few of things I’ll be making…

Living with a Chronic Disease

Episode 49: I took notes so you didn’t have to….today we are talking about what it’s like to live with a chronic disease and how this has changed my life…

I am not going to lie, this wasn’t the easiest episode to record or even write about. I feel that words are very powerful and saying things out loud can be very scary. I am still processing everything going on with me and every day I am learning more. But I am big fan of dealing with things right away as best as I can so here I am, dealing with the information I was given about myself. I know we usually talk a lot about food and a lot of joys in life. But with joys also comes some hard stuff and I wanted to honest about the hard stuff going on in my life in hopes it may help someone else out there who is going through something tough too.

This episode isn’t just about me, I have an amazing guest, friend, business coach and all around amazing person I am honored to have in my life, Christine Clifton. She is someone who has been through hell and back herself and is living, dare I say, Thriving in life living with what is going on inside her. She is on the podcast today talking about her health journey, what is going on in her world and how she is being the best version of herself!

Below are a few links to some of the things Christine mentioned during our conversation.

Mini Thanksgiving Leftovers

Episode 48: I took notes so you didn’t have to….today we are talking about what to do with those Thanksgiving Day Leftovers!

I am so grateful that I have an amazing guest helping me out with these thanksgiving day leftovers, Kristen Scontras! She’s a close friend of mine, an amazing trainer and someone you want in your life too! So make sure you send her an email, kristen.scontras@gmail.com, follow her on instagram and come workout with us on Zoom!

How was your Thanksgiving? Are you still full? Still in your carb induced comas? When families get together can be challenging and on top of trying to navigate the conversation waters of not always seeing eye to eye you also have to deal with the pressure from society of making sure the day is “perfect”. The food is “perfect”. It can be a lot of pressure on the person hosting the day or the people attending. Either way I hope you had a wonderful time and it was exactly what you needed.

Now what to do with all of those leftovers?! Below are a handful of recipes that both Kristen and I feel that could turn those leftovers into something pretty yummy!

Recipe Ideas:

Kristen’s Post Thanksgiving/Holiday Advice…

  • Don’t skip your workouts during the holiday season. Try your best to keep to your routine. Plus your workouts help reduce stress, will help you feel more aligned and I can honestly say that I have never regretted a workout in my life.

  • Eat mindfully as much as possible also if you know you are going to indulge in the evening or at an event then try to balance your day with a healthy breakfast and lunch.

  • Don’t go to your events, dinners, parties, whatever it is hungry. Have a decent snack before you go, stay hydrated throughout the day and in the evening.

  • Make peace with it…If you have a ton of birthdays in December you know you are going to and you love cake. Well then this is your time to enjoy that cake my friend!

  • Sleep, get your sleep. Again sleep, hydration and routine is the key to keeping yourself on track during this super busy season.

  • So you are going out to eat…order a salad or soup to start and then when you order your entree, take half home or order an appetizer.
